February 22 - Great turnout for the Creative Congress 2006

... and a winner!!

Congrats go out once again to the winner of our Flash 8 Professional raffle, Erin Zurney!

Overall it was a great turnout and a successful visit for our User Group. We had 75 people enter into the raffle for Flash 8. It was great meeting everyone and very nice talking with all the creative industry folk that showed up. I love meeting with people who are just a passionate about their career or hobby as I am.. it's always interesting conversation and I usually end up learning more than a thing or two through the exchange.

A big thanks to Misty and Angie, for help with getting everything together for the event, I couldn't have done it without them.

For those who may not know Misty or Angie, Misty is the User Group Marketing Coordinator and Angie is our User Group Webmaster.

I will definitely be looking for more events like this one which gives us a chance to get out the word about our group and meet more great people!

July 27 - Thanks to all who came out to last night's meeting, it was a lot of fun! To recap - the plan was to install Suse 9.1, Apache, MySQL and BlueDragon Server on to a machine and then raffle it off. Well - we accomplished the first of those tasks. =)

We did successfully install Suse 9.1 and then ran into an error when trying to compile Apache. I've since found this post that will help anyone wanting to continue the experiment at home.

http://forums.sudhian.com/messageview.aspx?catid=82&threadid=80147&enterthread=y

Basically - just grab the rpm file of GCC and install it using Yast. You can grab the rpm here:

http://www.trilithium.com/software/misc/

You should then be able to install Apache using the instructions found here.

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/install.html

You can find the resource links for last night's meeting here:

http://www.a3mug.com/files/july_2005.xls

We will have another session in the very near future that will cover BlueDragon and the different versions of the server that are available.
